so charming

Isn't this the cutest charm bracelet (actually I think it's a necklace)?! Nevertheless it's a real beaut! Best of all it's made by Toronto designer Clare Raman who uses kitschy vintage charms featuring all things Canadian!

I have a Tiffany's charm bracelet, with only one charm (hint, hint) but it just doesn't have the "charm" that these oldies have. My hubs' granny has the most precious charm bracelet, just the way it's supposed to be full of worn in charms and lot's of memories. That is what I'm aspiring to one day.

Bring on the charms.

My pal Mort is starring in Goodnight, Amherst by James Fanizza at the Bathurst Street Theatre so naturally I'm going. The play is inspired by the Tragically Hipā€™s 38 Years Old and profiles a broken family in Amherst, Ontario. Eye Weekly just rated the play with 4 stars so I'm pumped!

If you're interested in checking it out too it's on for four more shows:

  • Wed, July 7 7:30 PM - 442
  • Fri, July 9 11:00 PM - 458
  • Sat, July 10 4:00 PM - 461
  • Sun, July 11 Noon - 466

Ticket info and play listings can be found here!

Stay tuned for an update.

i love a good chai latte

I'm not a coffee drinker but I do love a hot cup of tea every morning. On the weekends, I indulge in a chai latte, sometimes I make my own but honestly it's so much better from a cafe (unless my sister-in-law is in town, she's the chai tea mastah).

My favourite spots in Toronto for a tasty chai tea latte are below in order of goodness, #1 being the best:

1. The Gladstone (sometimes they have a coconut chai latte (it's amazing) but I usually just get the regular one sweetened with maple syrup)

2. Blondies (the chai lattes here are so milky and just delicious, not on the sweet side)

3. The Communal Mule (great tea selection, but disappointing chai tea lattes (they use the syrup) but in a pinch I'll still take one)

4. Tealish (great chai tea, unfortunately they don't do lattes)

5. Timothy's (if I HAVE to choose from one of the big box coffee chains Timothy's gets an A+ for their chai latte)

Now if only White Squirrel would get on the chai tea latte train then I could pick one up on Fridays on my walk to work (they do have really good lemonade and ice cream though).

summer colds suck

This is my second day home from work battling a summer cold. My throat hurts, my nose is running and I've generally been feeling like crap. I've been nursing myself back to the living with lemon water, soup, toast and ginger tea and I think it's working (please God I hope so!).

I'm not sure I can take another day of TLC, Y&R and the Ellen Degeneres Show so tonight, the clincher will be a steaming bowl of #13 at the Golden Turtle. It usually cures what ails me whether it's a hangover, a cold, or just a bad day so fingers crossed!

Yum and bring on the spicy goodness. I'll make sure to bring lots of Kleenex.

rainy day biking?

We've all heard of the fantastic bike culture in countries like the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany and bike enthusiasts here in Toronto (my hubs included) wish we had their well-deveolped infrastructureĀ  but alas we don't (we probably never will...oops did I just say that?).

This video is bike rush hour on a rainy day in the Netherlands. I sat in awe watching. Only the hardcores here ride on rainy days like the one we had today.

Doesn't it make you want to hop on your bike and go somewhere?

early morning walk

This morning I woke up at 5:30 am (ya I know it's early) and could not get back to sleep. So I decided to take an early morning stroll instead of just lying there wishing I could fall back asleep. There is something so nice about taking in the streets before the rest of the city starts to buzz. Everything was so quiet, the air smelled fresh and I felt like I was the only one awake. It was such a lovely start to my day!

I wish I could say that I'm going to make this a habit, but I love sleeping so I'll probably wait until the next early morning that I lay tossing and turning.

Sleep tight!

summah time

Bike rides and long walks for ice cream (remind you of anything?) It's summer!!

I love this season and this time of year is the best because it's all just beginning (we have so many months of amazing summer fun to look forward to!). Based on the heat this week, it's going to be a hot one folks. Bring it on!!

Here are some summer pics to get you stoked (if you're not already).

Yummy summer fruit. It always tastes better this time of year.

Hot summer night swims and swimming in the lake up north (if you're from Ontario you know what I mean).

Frolicking and lazing away the day at the park.

Invites to cottages, campfires and getting smoke in your eyes (I hate jack rabbits)

Sandy days at the beach and sunkissed hair.

Here's to 4 more months of pure bliss! Are you excited?
