So today is my Dad's 60th birthday (Happy Birthday Dad!) and to celebrate we had a pig roast on Saturday night.  The do-it-yourself pig roast is surprisingly easy! We ordered it from Shaw's Catering and they supplied the pig (obvi) and all the gear required to roast it as well as lengthy tutorial on roasting and carving the little guy.

To finish off the dinner I baked Martha Stewart styles - read: the most complicated desert I've ever made - and they actually turned out great. They were black forest cupcakes, but think de-constructed black forest cake. I found the recipe here and followed it completely, however I opted to use this recipe for pastry cream because I tried Martha's and failed miserably.
